ABRAHAM REJOICED TO SEE MY DAY
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see MY DAY and he saw it and was glad. Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM. Then they took up stones to cast at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple , going through the midst of them and so passed by (John 8:56-59).
For as the lightning that lighteneth out of the one part of heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so also shall the Son of man be in his DAY (Luke 17:24).
It’s often taught, and rightly so, that Abraham, is the “Father of Faith” and that Christians should emulate his outstanding example of trusting God. Scripture says Abraham so deeply took God at his word “it was counted to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:1-22, Galatians 3:6-9).
But here’s something Abraham believed but today the vast majority of Christians don’t. It is that Christ will have his own DAY. And DAY here means more than a 24-hour period. It means an era, an epoch, lasting the best part of a thousand years. As the Apostle Peter explains, “Beloved be not ignorant of this one thing, that the one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 2:8).
You might ask, how is it Abraham “saw” this day which didn’t come in his lifetime and, though now “at hand” or imminent, has yet to come in ours? The answer is that the sure promise of this day, the DAY OF CHRIST, “HIS DAY”, was personally revealed to him by the Lord Jesus Christ in a vision.
It should be a wake-up call to all Christians that in religious church calendars no special day is celebrated as CHRIST’S DAY. What a dreadful omission. Yes, there is Christmas and Easter, pagan festivals adopted by the mainstream denominations. There is the holiday of Whitsunday, celebrating the descent of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost. But there is no church holiday (holy day) for Jesus Christ Himself.
And there should be, for all of human history is headed toward the day Christ Himself calls MY DAY. Indeed, it is the crux of God’s great plan of redemption. You see, Jesus came to give life “and that more abundantly”. But, as He Himself said, that life will only be found in the “kingdom of God” which was the burden of our Lord’s teaching and preaching when He was on earth.
And that kingdom and that life are only realised at the APPEARING of Jesus Christ as Almighty God which, the Apostle Paul declares, is the Christian believer’s “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13). It is an awful mistake to ignore this “blessed hope” and instead hope in a so-called “rapture” to take you to heaven instead.
If the Bible be true then please note that 1 Thessalonians 4:17 says alive and resurrected saints will one day be caught up to MEET the Lord in the air and, I submit, escort Him down to earth as He “descends”. It does not say a word about anybody going to heaven.
The false hope of the “rapture” is a Satanic delusion, crafted by the Wicked One to divert attention away from glorious splendour of “MY DAY”, the day in which Christ Jesus will manifest his full glory as God Almighty, the creator and redeemer, to bring in a brand new and much better world. In this “the day of Christ”, war will be banished and peace will reign.
Death will be rebuked, men will live as long and trees, the majority of mankind will be turned back to God and the earth itself will be healed and restored. (Please see the author’s other articles on this website about this glorious Day of Christ” heralded by all the Old Testament prophets, taught by Jesus Himself and later proclaimed by his apostles. See 1 Corinthians 1:8, 5:5, 2 Corinthians 1:14, Philippians 16, 2:16 and 2 Thessalonians 2:2).
It is this glorious day in which the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ, will bring upon men the greatest blessing yet which Abraham saw “and rejoiced” over. My prayer is that you might also rejoice ahead of its actual fulfilment, just as he did.
That Messiah would have “HIS DAY”, when He would bring in his kingdom on earth, govern the whole world and restore Israel to be a blessing to all people, were prophecies well known to the leaders and people of Israel when Jesus walked among them. This “HIS DAY” was to be the “consolation of Israel” Simeon was waiting for when he came into the temple and saw “the salvation of God” in the person of the baby Jesus.
It was this “HIS DAY” of the long promised kingdom of God that Joseph of Arimathea waited for when took the body of the crucified Lord and laid it an unused sepulchre (Luke 23:50-53). It is this “HIS DAY” that the Lord Jesus spoke of in John 14:20, 16:23, and that the Apostle Paul saw as the end goal of “his course” when he would receive a crown of righteousness (2 Tim. 1:12, 4:8). Let’s take a closer look at these two scriptures.
For the which cause (that is, his appointment as preacher, apostle and teacher of the Gentiles) I also suffer these thing: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against THAT DAY (2 Timothy 1:12).
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at THAT DAY, and not to me only but unto all them that also that love his appearing (2 Timothy 4:8).
Paul was facing execution, his death which he calls his “departure” (vs. 6). Nevertheless he was “persuaded” he would be “preserved” (2 Timothy 4:18) to live again in the Lord’s “heavenly kingdom” (2 Timothy 4:18) and be given his “crown of righteousness”.
Importantly, this would only occur in “HIS DAY”, the DAY Abraham saw by faith, the DAY OF CHRIST, as Paul seven times describes it in his epistles, the “DAY OF REDEMPTION” as it is called in Ephesians 4:30.
