WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE SAVED?
HOW ARE WE SAVED?
By faith through grace, believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again (Romans 10:9, 10:13, Acts 11:14, Corinthians 15:1-4).
HOW DO WE STAY SAVED?
By continuing to believe. By holding fast to the “done gospel” (Colossians 1:23). By keeping the “word of truth, the gospel of your salvation” (Ephesians 1:13) “in memory” (1 Corinthians 15:2).
Do this and you are:
FORGIVEN – Ephesians 4:32 and Ephesians 1:6-7.
RECONCILED (that is, made one with) – 2 Corinthians 5:18, Colossians 1:21.
REDEEMED – Ephesians 1:7.
TRANSLATED (from Satan’s power into God’s kingdom) – Colossians 1:13.
BAPTISED INTO CHRIST BY THE HOLY SPIRIT –
Into his Body – 1 Corinthians 12:13
Into his death – Romans 6:1-4, Galatians 2:20
Into his burial – 1 Corinthians 12:13
Risen with Him – 1 Corinthians 12:13, Colossians 2:12.
(NB: Today we are not baptised by Christ with the Holy Spirit (as Jewish believers were once upon a time in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost), nor do we need to be water baptised as they were. Instead, in this “the dispensation of the grace of God” (Eph. 3:2), we are baptised by the Holy Spirit into Christ. This Spirit baptism is the one and only baptism, for today (Eph. 4:5)).
CIRCUMCISED (i.e. your body of sin is cutaway spiritually) – Colossians 2:11.
GIVEN PEACE AND JOY – Romans 5:1, 5:22, 15:13, Ephesians 2:14.
